Lemon Frosting?

Though she loathed personality tests, she was a sucker for the quickies.  How far off was the silly colored  refrigerator design test at Amanacolor.com?:  "Sweet and soft with just a bit of zest, you are the social equivalent of lemon frosting.  Whether that means you're happy on top of a cupcake we can't answer - this is a family website.  But we can say that your witty repartee saves you from being sticky sweet.  That and your disturbing proficiency with a meat cleaver."

Made her take a second look at some of those fridges...

A Glass House Inside

Hot damn. Now it made sense to buy the old farm ruins in rural France for a song. Look what could become...

Gig: Ecuador!

She got the gig!   Traveling through Ecuador from May 26th through June 18th, studying Ecuadorian theatre art, then collaborating with other artists to write a play.  And she'd spend a week in Esmeraldas, a place she had never heard of before the audition, a place founded by African slaves who'd escaped from shipwrecked slave ships off the Ecuadorian coast in the 16th century, an isolated place where these Africans and their descendants were able to create their own free society untouched by the outside world, a place where African music, dance and traditions still flourish, a place she had to see.

What an opportunity.  Her dreams were coming to life.
She'd be grateful for a lifetime to the Dramatic Adventure International Theatre Project!

All is Full of Love

Marshall Todd never lied...  Sexy Robot Love.

Thank you, once again, Bjork!

Fallen Locks

The battle was lost.  Too much damage.  She didn't cry as her stylist cut it all off, but she couldn't look in the mirror.   Thank goodness for the nimble-fingered braid artist who gave her her femininity back just a few hours later.

Then she remembered that come-backs happen...

V-Day

A single girl had to remind herself now and then.

Facebook Redux

Damned that Facebook.  She'd lost a whole week reading "walls" of notes from far away people from far away times.  Addictive.  Resistance was in order.

No More Drama

While her own story was nowhere near as dramatic as Sil Lai Abrams', she could relate.  She certainly knew when it was like to stay in bed for 3 months...  Hadn't everyone battled depression to a certain extent at least once?  She appreciated Sil Lai's no-nonsense wisdom on "transforming a breakdown into a breakthrough" in her self-help book "No More Drama".  Enlightening.  And she couldn't help but be proud of another young woman o' color owning herself and shining as a leader.

Sunday Cobbler - Mango...

...not the greatest hit.  She reminded herself that baking was an inexact science.

Teutonic Flashback

A surprise message from an old friend in Munich sent her down memory lane...  A bottle of her favorite Gruener Veltliner and two classic, decade old albums - the masterful "Esperanto" from Freundeskreis and the playful "Bambule" from the Absolute Beginner - made for a perfect evening reminiscing.

Cold Showers

She'd read about the many advantages of cold showers and was intrigued. Beyond the mental and physical health benefits*, there was a morale boosting effect that set the tone for the entire day: To shower cold was to start the day with a courageous act. So she began this day with the courageous act. Result: Invigorating! She'd make this her weekday morning ritual.

*Health benefits of a cold shower:
  • Brings blood to the capillaries, thereby increasing circulation throughout the body
  • Cleans the circulatory system
  • Reduces blood pressure on internal organs
  • Facilitates flushing for organs
  • Strengthens parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems
  • Contracts muscles to eliminate toxins
  • Strengthens mucous membranes which help resist allergies, colds and coughs
  • Can stimulate the brain's primary source of noradrenaline which can mediate depression
Extra credit points for saving on heating expenses and conserving water (cold showers = short showers). Plus cold water strengthened hair strands by closing their cuticles. All good!

The Notorious Passive Aggressive Note

She laughed out loud when she encountered this site on her street this morning.  A note had been hung on a discarded Christmas tree (yes, Christmas tree in February) in front of a neighbor's house. Weren't we all guilty of this type of angry written message at least once?  That was why she enjoyed visiting  www.passiveaggressivenotes.com.
She thought she might submit this to their collection. Close up of the note:
